 DEFINITION

The Employee in this class is a seasonal employee and performs work related to the responsibility for the safety and orderly conduct of customers in the Pool and the surrounding pool area.  This employee shall also be competent in carrying out emergency procedures particular to water rescue and safety.

 

JOB DUTIES

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Under the immediate direction and supervision of the Pool Manager and under the subsequent supervision of the City Superintendent and City Manager.
  2. Required to work a varied schedule, including weekends and holidays.
  3. Maintain the Bathhouse building, pool, and surrounding pool area in a neat, clean, and orderly manner.
  4. Disinfect and sanitize the bathhouse daily with Bleach in a sanitary fashion.
  5. Clean and maintain in proper working order all pool equipment and appurtenances including but not limited to chairs, tables, umbrellas, lifeguard stands, lift station, and life saving equipment such as hooks, flotation devises, life rings, ropes and etc…
  6. Responsible for reporting any abnormalities discovered including but not limited to customer rule compliance, safety issues, broken or inoperable equipment, water quality, injuries, blood spills, fecal mater, weather and/or lightning, swimming incidents, and etc…
  7. Every day at pool closing all equipment must be inspected and in its designated area.  The pool must be free and clear of any toys, swimming gear, clothing, towels, or material of any kind that may cause damage or blockage of the pool drainage system.  A restriction or closure of the suction vents can cause damage to the circulation pumps.  Therefore, special effort needs to be taken to keep the pool clear of any refuse.
  8. All safety equipment must stay in its designated areas throughout the day unless when being used for safety and/or rescue process of which should be returned immediately after. This includes all safety equipment other than any devices needed to perform your regular duties such as flotation rescue devices that accompany individual lifeguards throughout their duty.
  9. Must be able to perform rescues that involve heavy lifting and moving of people weighing in excess of 200 pounds.
  10. Must be able to administer CPR and Standard First aid and safety until the arrival of emergency medical services.
  11. Must and shall occupy and maintain your watch post in a clear and attentive state at the designated mandatory watch stations; further described as the three (3) lifeguard stands, at the top of the slide and the bottom of the slide in the splash pool.
  12. Must maintain a constant surveillance of patrons in the facility; acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of an emergency.
  13. Maintain an acceptable appearance at all times.  Men will wear a red swim suit with a white tank top and Women will wear a one piece red swim suit or red shorts and a white tank top.  No clothing or items may be worn that may impair the vision, hearing, or restrict movement in the case of preventing or providing rescues.
  14. Using excellent customer service skills, establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees, officials, and all patrons of the pool.
  15. Perform all other duties assigned as an essential function of this position.
  16. Perform all duties in a safe and efficient manner.
  17. Attendance at work is an essential function of this position.
  18. Follow, adhere, and enforce all aquatic facility rules, regulations, and guidelines for the operations of the pool and occupancy of customer patrons.   

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Job Requirements

  1. This position is subject to the City of Mangum’s Substance Abuse Policy which includes pre-employment testing.
  2. American Red Cross, CPR-AED for lifeguard’s certificate.
  3. American Red Cross, Lifeguarding/First Aid certificate
  4. Must have and be able to demonstrate swimming skills.
  5. Experience with another aquatic facility preferred but not required.
  6. Must demonstrate the ability to take direction from the Pool Manager.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee does regularly work near moving equipment, tools, and/or parts.  The employee is frequently exposed to fumes, and/or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals.  The employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, outside weather conditions such as extreme heat.  The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock.
